
The Victorian Union for Progressive Judaism (VUPJ) is the roof body for the four constituent congregations, Temple Beth Israel, the Leo Baeck Centre, Bentleigh Progressive Synagogue and Kedem, as well as the affiliated organisations, the King David School, Netzer and ARZA. Its role is to assist and develop the constituents and affiliates as part of a well-balanced network.
Responsibilities of the VUPJ
Life cycle events of the four congregations, including: weddings, funerals, consecrations and brit milah (the VUPJ has its own mohelim). This includes Bet-Olam Jewish Funerals, a Progressive Funeral service. For 24 hour service, please call 9883 6237.
Appoints delegates to represent the Progressive Movement at Jewish and secular organisations, covering the full spectrum of political and religious issues so there is a unified opinion voiced.
Represented at the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) by 8 delegates or one of the 8 deputies.
